The Amazon Archetype

This time of the moon is related to the place of the West on the wheel where the Amazon stands confidently and surely at the initiatory gate into the Matriarch.The moon in its last quarter, in the place of the West, a place of power that draws upon all that has been gathered previously. It’s the time of harvest and healing waters. 

Within each cardinal direction of the archetypal wheel there sits the initiatory gate where the energy of the phase previous is gathered, collected and embodied. In the Amazon archetypal phase we are sitting at the initiatory gate of the Matriarch after having passed through the south and the phases of Mother.

The Amazon is a place of rapid surging growth within a power period emergence of her independent self. The Amazon turns her attention from outwardly nourishing others to trending to her own healing waters and fiery passions. The Amazon is a phase seeking balance of the masculine and feminine energies held within a time where we find ourselves partnering for self realization and personal growth. They are  intent on seeking meaningful connections that spring from the authentic self. 

This is a place on the wheel where freedom, power and pain are fully owned, springing forth the fruits of self-determination that suit her for a special kind of leadership. The Amazon phase is a place of outspokenness, spontaneity, and determination for freedom from cultural restraints, limiting beliefs and systemic repression. The wildness of the Amazon years in our current times are fueled by the separation from the natural world, lack of ritual celebrations honoring women’s traditions and blood rite phases, and sweeping desacralization of life in general. 

The Amazon stage is one of rebirth into the second phase of life with the determination of a warrior to own the fullness of your life and deliver your medicine to the world. She will use the power and wisdom from explorations of the Amazonian wild woman stage to lay the foundation for a more stable transition to sit directly in the West on the seat of Matriarch.

As we turn our attention to this quarter moon, we ask you to inquire with the Amazon within you. 

How does she show up in your life?

A Ritual Invitation

 Take some time for yourself to contemplate how she moves in you through this ritual offering. These are all suggestions and the invitation is to listen to your body's innate guidance; sound and move as you feel. In preparation gather a candle, art materials (paper, pens, markers, etc.), cleansing tools, and a comfortable space for reflection and creation.

  1. Light a candle and create a sacred container for yourself. Use smoke (appropriate to your bioregion) to clear the space, moving in a clockwise direction, speaking aloud or inwardly; clearing and blessing the space. Be sure to start with yourself, then carefully clear the space, clear the corners, doors, and windows, and bring the energy inward. 

  2. Call in your support and resources of the bright and shiny ancestors, the directions of the wheel, and other resources of relationship, requesting guidance for tapping into the Amazonian energy of balanced masculine and feminine aspects.

  3. Spend a few minutes breathing in a circular motion with connective breathing. This is a full belly breath where you do not pause at the top or bottom. This is a fast pace breath with equal length inhales and exhales. Relax your jaw with a partially open mouth. This activates your sensations and you may start to feel tingling in your hands. Once you are completely tapped in, relax into normal breathing.

  4. Pick up your writing/drawing materials and create with your non-dominant hand a representation of your Amazon. Allow words, images, symbols to pass through you and onto the paper without censorship.

  5. When you feel complete with the expression, take in the wisdom of the Amazon with curiosity.

  6. Give thanks to your support, releasing all that joined in to go if they must or stay with they will.

  7. Observe over the next week  how the representation of your creation of Amazon is reflected within you, others and your World.
